I am currently a digital editor, social media coordinator and freelance writer. I am the editorial manager for High School Illustrated, a start-up digital media publication based in Orange County, Calif. I also manage the social media elements for TITLE Boxing Club locations in Lawrence and Topeka, Kan.

I have experience in reporting on a range of topics, but my biggest passion is healthy living. Since 2010, I have authored the Pursuit of Healthfulness blog. Traffic on the site has grown steadily — it now averages more than 10,000 visitors per month. The blog features my own recipes, exercise tips and explanations of current health issues. I also contribute to HuffPost Live, xoJane, eHow and Living the College Life.

I am a May 2012 graduate from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. As an honors students at the University of Kansas, I held multiple editorial and management roles with the award-winning University Daily Kansan.

As an undergraduate student, I also had the opportunity to write for Student Health 101 and the “Go!” section of the Lawrence Journal World. During my final semester at KU, I interned at Mother Earth News in Topeka, Kan. Among my responsibilities, I developed search engine optimization skills, fact checked stories for publication and researched upcoming topics for Mother Earth News’ magazine and website.

Since graduation, I have worked with High School Illustrated. As a self-starter, I work independently to manage writers and content. I also coordinate and publish all of the digital media elements. I love the creativity this job allows me. It is very stimulating to figure out new ways to connect with a target audience. I now wish to transition into new opportunities that will allow me to work more directly in a team environment.

Speaking of teamwork, I got married in the summer of 2011. Some of my work appears under my maiden name, Emily McCoy.
